With Halloween approaching and children running around in costumes collecting candy, it is easy to overload on sugar. While Halloween is a paradise for any candy-loving kid, there are plenty of ways to reduce sugar and prevent cavities. Some candies are easier on teeth than others.
The main cause of cavities is prolonged contact with sugar. Sticky and chewy candies are more likely to cling to teeth and cause harm. Sour candies affect acidic levels in the mouth which break down enamel.

Instead of sticky and sweet candies, choose sugar-free options and chocolate. Dark chocolate is packed with tannins, which help prevent oral bacteria.

- Sugar Free Lollipops
Additional Health Tips:
- Eat dinner before trick-or-treating. A full stomach provides energy to run house-to-house, and less room to feast on sugar at the end of the night.
- Floss daily and brush at least twice a day to resist ghoulish cavities.
- Eat a few pieces of candy at one time rather than snacking throughout the day to avoid prolonged sugar contact.
- Throw away candy after 2-3 weeks.
