Dozens of dental volunteers from all over the community arrived at the Champagne Pediatric Dentistry and Champagne Family Dentistry offices in Sparks on Feb. 2 for the 10th annual Give Kids a Smile event, ready to provide free dental care to children who do not have dental insurance.
Hosted by Northern Nevada Dental Health Programs, the annual Give Kids a Smile event kicks off National Children’s Dental Health Month in February.
This year, dental services worth $65,000 were provided to children under the age of 18, including routine dental cleanings and x-rays, and restorative care such as fillings and crowns.
“This collaborative event shows how dedicated the dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and administrators from local dental practices are to the children in our community who really need this essential dental care but whose families do not have access to dental insurance,” said Jason Champagne, DDS, CEO of Champagne Dental Partners.
The positive energy was apparent to all during the event as administrators organized when patients would be seen, and dentists, dental hygienists and assistants from different dental practices worked together to provide each child with dental care tailored to their individual needs.
Sparks Mayor Ronald Smith officially commended Champagne Family Dentistry, Champagne Pediatric Dentistry, Northern Nevada Dental Health Programs, and the dedication and compassion of Northern Nevada dental volunteers for providing free dental services to local children at a presentation at the City of Sparks on Feb. 10th.
Between 2017 and 2019, dental volunteers from the Reno and Sparks community have provided more than $207,000 worth of free dental care to local children through this event.
