The rain could not stop the dental community from coming together this weekend to offer free dental care to more than 100 at-risk and uninsured children for the 9th annual Give Kids a Smile Event hosted by the Northern Nevada Dental Health Program.
The volunteer dentists, hygienists and dental assistants from the Reno and Sparks community arrived at Champagne Dental Partners’ family and pediatric practices in Sparks ready to work side-by-side to achieve one common goal.
“We have a great group of dentists in the area who love to come together to do good for kids in our community, “ said Dr. Jason Champagne. “I love opening up our practice to events like this, where the local dental community can come together and offer essential dental services to children who would not otherwise have access to this care.”
Children attending the event received free dental exams, cleanings, x-rays, fillings, extractions, root canals, and stainless steel crowns. Kids in need of additional treatment after the event will be paired with a dentist through the Healthy Smile Healthy Child Program.
Eighteen dentists and roughly 60 volunteers donated their services, along with dental suppliers 3M, Patterson, Henry Schein, Champagne Family Dentistry, Champagne Pediatric Dentistry, and My Kids Smile, who donated all of the supplies and other resources.
Dentists volunteering their time and services included Travis Adams, Erin Anderson, Hannah Beus, Whitney Bryant, Nicole Bui , Cariann Champagne, Drew Champagne, Jason Champagne, Trent Gookin, Anthony Guillen, Andrew Leland, Jeffrey Luckey, Jennifer McClanahan, Benita Ng, Michelle Schiro, John Silvaroli, Michael Stallings, and Garrett Swanson.
The 9th Annual Give Kids a Smile event was made possible by Northern Nevada Dental Society’s New Dentist Committee, Northern Nevada Dental Health Programs and its Healthy Smile Healthy Child Program, Champagne Family Dentistry, Champagne Pediatric Dentistry, and numerous volunteer dentists and dental hygienists.
