Pediatric Teeth Extractions in Sparks

Pediatric Teeth Extractions

There are a number of factors that could require the extraction of a tooth. If a tooth becomes too decayed or is badly infected, damaged beyond repair, or misaligned to the point where it causes pain or impedes bite function, your dentist may elect to extract the tooth with a simple procedure.

What Is a Pediatric Tooth Extraction And How to Deal With It

A pediatric tooth extraction is a simple procedure that your child’s dentist might determine is necessary for several different reasons. Most commonly, teeth are extracted because they have been damaged by trauma or decay to the point where they cause excessive pain or inhibit bite functionality. Baby teeth (and sometimes primary teeth) can also be extracted for orthodontic reasons, including giving teeth more room in the mouth to grow straighter.

Your child’s dentist will numb the tooth and gum with local anaesthesia before removing the tooth with gentle pressure from a pair of forceps. Afterward, care of the empty socket includes not letting your child vigorously rinse their mouth or eat hard foods for the first 24 hours so a protective clot has the ability to form in the socket. Mild pain or swelling is normal after an extraction, and can be treated with ice and a doctor-approved over-the-counter pain medication if necessary.

Pain Free Experience—We Offer Different Forms of Dental Anesthesia

In certain cases, general anesthesia can make young patients more comfortable, and a dentist’s job safer and more effective. We offer different types of sedation services depending on our patient’s need and their parent’s preference, and provide in-office general anesthesia through a partnership with a trained anesthesiologist.

“We are new to the pediatric dental practice and have been to one regular check-up/teeth cleaning and our most recent appointment was for a tooth extraction. Both experiences have been excellent. The use of technology to reduce the minutiae of paperwork is outstanding, but does not reduce the approachability of the staff. They are very personable and greet parents and children with a smile. Both Drs. Champagne are good, knowledgeable and interacted positively with my daughter and me.”

Raquel DePuy Grafton

“The staff here is AMAZING! I started taking my toddler to them when I noticed some issues with her teeth. She is not a fan of going in every three months now, but they make it so much easier to take her in there and she’s becoming much more comfortable with it. They are always SO great with her and try anything and everything they can to calm her. I’m so glad I found them and couldn’t imagine taking my little elsewhere. Thank you all for being so wonderful!”

Jessica Bell

“Our son had work done this week and he was made comfortable and his concerns were addressed and his comfort was paramount. The tech explained what she was doing and he did really well and even left the office with a smile on his face! Can’t recommend Champagne Pediatric Dentistry enough!”
